Parliamentary committee clears bill on wage compensation for debate

Parliament's Audit and Budget Committee on Monday cleared for general debate a bill that would establish the amount of compensation companies are to pay employees who were left worse off by tax changes introduced at the start of the year.

The bill, submitted by MPs of governing Fidesz, would prohibit companies that do not pay the full amount of the compensation due employees who earn less than gross HUF 300,000 a month from participating in public procurement procedures for two years and make them ineligible to receive state subsidies.

The government earlier reached an agreement with employers on compensating employees who are worse off because of the tax changes that benefitted many Hungarians.
