Tenders worth a combined HUF 4.25 billion for tourism developments in the area around Lake Balaton in 2009-2010 were announced on Wednesday.
The tenders, part of the regional operative program, aim to create products and services in line with tourists' demands, to increase the number of attractions in the region, to boost profitability and to find ways to offset seasonal differences in tourist numbers, said Balaton Development Council chairman Tamás Suchman.
Applications for the development funding may be submitted between September 1, 2009 and March 30, 2010.
The funding will cover up to 30%-85% of costs, depending on the region the developments are made. The smallest amount available will be HUF 20 million. The largest will be between HUF 100 million and HUF 450 million, depending on the type of project and the region.
Some HUF 3.7 billion in funding was spent on developments to make the region more attractive to tourists last year. (MTI-Econews)
