Around HUF 110 billion (€403 million) in EU funding will be available for the development of Hungary's tourism sector this year and in 2010, Ministry of Municipalities State Secretary Miklós Kovács said in Budapest on Wednesday.
Kovács said EU funding available for tourism development in Hungary between 2007-2013 amounts to around HUF 300 billion if the National Tourism Development Strategy is implemented in an optimum way. Kovács said 8.8%c of Hungary's GDP comes from tourism, and the sector employs around 400,000 people.
Experts project a more modest decline in tourism next year than that registered in 2009, Kovács said. The number of guest nights fell 8.4% in January-October this year from the same period last year. (MTI-Econews)
