The increasing number of low-cost flights to Hungary, on-line reservations, significant tourism developments and increased capacity in quality accommodation have resulted in a record year in tourism in 2005, the minister of regional development told the press on Friday. Quoting the latest figures of the Central Statistics Office (KSH), István Kolber said revenues in commercial lodgings increased by 13 % to Ft 214 billion last year, with the number of guestnights growing most significantly in four-star and five-star hotels. This shows that tourists are increasingly after quality services, he noted. Tourism and the development of Hungary's waterfront areas, such as the Lake Balaton region, the River Danube and the River Tisza, are getting special treatment in the national concept for regional development, Kolber said. Under the arrangements of the current operative programme for regional development, decisions about new tender applications will enable 25-30 further tourism development projects in the near future, he added.
