Hungary's VEX competitiveness index rises 1% in Q2

The GKI-Microsoft Magyarország competitiveness index (VEX) for Hungary rose 1% in the second quarter of 2010 from Q1 of the year, economic think-tank GKI reported on Wednesday. Poland's VEX index rose 2.2% in the second quarter from Q1, while that of Slovenia and Austria rose 1.2%, Slovakia's rose 1.1% and the Czech Republic's rose 0.9%, while Romania's VEX index slipped 0.4% during the period. Of the factors of the index, Hungary's index assessing macroeconomic performance rose 1.6% in the second quarter of 2010 from Q1 of the year. Similar to most countries covered by GKI, the improvement came from expanding exports which offset the contraction of investments. The only exception was Poland were rising exports and rising investments raised the sub-index by 4.5% in the period. (MTI-Econews)
