Hungary's hunting industry generates annual revenue of Ft 16 billion and pre-tax profit of about Ft 800 million, said István Pintér, second in charge at the Agriculture Ministry's hunting department.
About 220,000 big game and 600,000 small game are harvested in Hungary each year, Pintér said. In 2008, about 550,000 big game, 800,000 pheasants and 550,000 wild hare were harvested.
About half of the hunting industry's revenue comes from contract hunters, who harvest mostly deer and wild boar. About Ft 3.7 billion comes from hunting licenses, Ft 3 billion is generated by game meat processors, Ft 1 billion comes from fees for hunting accommodations and Ft 600 million comes from exports of live wild hare.
