Hungary's August retail sales up 5.1% yr/yr

Retail sales increased a calendar year-adjusted 5.1% year-on-year in August, after rising 4.0% in July, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported on Wednesday.

Adjusted retail sales volume for the EU-25 increased 3.3% year-on-year in August. August retail sales in Hungary rose 0.6% from July, according to seasonally- and working day-adjusted data. Retail sales totaled Ft 532.5 billion (€2.025 billion) in August at current prices. In the first eight months of 2006, retail sales increased a calendar year-adjusted 5.1% year-on-year in volume terms and to totaled Ft 3,708 billion at current prices. In line with EU methodology, the figures do not include sales of vehicles, vehicle parts or fuel. Retail fuel sales volume rose 6.6% year-on-year in August and 9.9% year-on-year in January-August. Sales of cars and car parts were down 0.6% in August and were up 4.0% in January-August compared to the same respective periods a year earlier. Retail sales, including cars, components and fuel, increased 4.4% year-on-year in August and 5.4% in January-August. (Mti-Eco)
