Hungary to spend HUF 250 bln on railway infrastructure

Hungary will spend over HUF 250 billion on railway infrastructure development over the next years, mainly from EU sources, daily Napi Gazdaság reports citing development minister Tamás Fellegi.

National railway MÁV will use about HUF 12 billion to upgrade some half a dozen lines and HUF 10 billion will go toward buying new carriages and engines, he said.

Another HUF 50 billion will be spent to refurbish two main railway stations, one in Budapest and another in Vác.

Park and ride facilities costing over HUF 100 billion will be built along the Budapest suburban lines to encourage commuters to use public transport instead of cars, Fellegi said.
