Hungary's rail freight market contracted 17.7% in volume terms and 21.7% in freight ton-kilometers in 2009, a report by the National Transportation Office shows.
Hungary's rail freight industry recorded 42.4 million freight tons and 7.7 million freight ton-kilometers in 2009.
For cross-border deliveries, freight tons fell 25.7% to 30.0 billion and freight ton-kilometers dropped 24.6% to 6.4 billion. For domestic deliveries, freight tons were down 11.2% at 12.45 billion and freight ton-kilometers dipped 3.4% to 1.3 billion.
Combined revenue of the country's rail freight companies dropped 19.7% to HUF 83.7 billion in 2009. (MTI-Econews)
