The average unemployment rate in Hungary was 11.2% in the 15-74 age group in March-May, down from 11.5% in February-April but up from 11.0% in the same period a year earlier, data published by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) on Thursday show.
In absolute terms, the number of unemployed averaged 485,400 in March-May. The unemployment rate in the 25-54 age group was 10.5% in March-May, down from 10.7% in February-April, but up from 10.2% in the same period a year earlier.
There were 362,700 unemployed in the age group on average during the period. The unemployment rate in the 15-24 age group was 27.0% in March-May. There were 77,100 unemployed in the age group. KSH said 46.5% of the unemployed had been looking for work for a year or more. The average time the unemployed spent seeking jobs was 18.2 months.
KSH noted that data from the State Employment Service (ÁFSz) show there were 534,600 registered job seekers at the end of May, down 6.5% from a year earlier. The number of employed in Hungary in the 15-74 age group rose to 3,848,600 in March-May from 3,811,200 in February-April and 3,785,800 in the same period a year earlier.
The rate of employment in the age group climbed to 50.2% in March-May from 49.7% in February-April and 49.3% in the same period a year earlier.
