Guest nights spent at commercial accommodations in Hungary rose 11.8% yr/yr in April at 1.4 million, and were also up from 1.2 million in March, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported on Wednesday.
The increase picked up from 5.4% in February.
Foreign guest nights rose 18.2% from a year earlier to 828,000 in April, and domestic guest nights rose 4.3% yr/yr to 617,000.
The April rise, the biggest one this year, brought the January-April yr/yr increase in guest nights to 7.8%. Guest nights totaled 4.8 million in the first four months, with foreign guest nights rising 10.7% yr/yr to 2.2 million and domestic guests nights rising 4.9% to 2.1 million.
The total number of guests was 591,000 in April, up 11.6% in twelve months, with foreign guests totaling 309,000, up 18.3% from a year earlier. Domestic guests numbered 282,000 in April, up 5% yr/yr.
In the first four months of 2011, the total number of guests was 1.806 million, up 7.7% from a year earlier, with foreign arrivals increasing 11.3% to 847,000 and domestic guests up 4.7% at 959,000.
In the entire last year, guest nights were up 1.5% compared to the previous year, totaling 19 million. Foreign guest nights rose 1.4% to 9.36 million last year, while domestic guest nights were up 1.6% at 9.7 million.
