Guest nights spent at commercial accommodations in Hungary increased 0.9% to 7.573 million January-June from a year earlier, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said on Monday. Foreign guest nights rose 2.4% to 3.887 million and domestic guest nights fell 4.5% to 3.686 million.
In June alone, guest nights decreased 3.6% yr/yr. In May their number grew 0.3% yr/yr after a slight drop in April and rises in the first three months. The number of guest nights fell almost steadily yr/yr between November 2008 and December 2009.
In January-June this year, the number of guests at commercial accommodations rose 1.0% yr/yr to 3.064 million. Foreign guests numbered 1.426m in January-June, 6.1% more than a year earlier.
The number of guests at commercial accommodations was 719,000 in June alone, down 0.7% in one year after rising 1.5% yr/yr in May.
The average hotel occupancy rate was 40% in January-June, up 1 % points to the same period last year.
Gross revenue from accommodation fell 10.9% yr/yr to HUF 25.69 billion in January-June at current prices. Revenue from foreigners fell 10.2% to HUF 23.291 billion, and decreased from domestic guests 16.8% to HUF 2.399 billion. (MTI-Econews)
