Hungary foreign trade surplus of €27.5 mln in May

Hungary had a €27.5 million trade surplus in May, as against €44.1 million deficit in the same month last year and down from €64 million surplus in April 2008, according to a second reading of the figures published by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) on Tuesday.

The May surplus is €19.6 million down from a preliminary €47.1 million surplus reported on July 9. In January-May Hungary’s trade surplus of €368 million compares to €303 million deficit in the first five months last year.

May exports rose 6.4% year-on-year, after a rise of 22.2% growth in April, and imports increased 5.1% in May after a 17.9% rise in the preceding month. In volume terms April exports increased 2.0% after a rise of 21.2% in April and imports rose 4.0% after a 18.3% increase in April. In January-May exports increased 12.9% in euro terms and 10.7% in volume terms, while imports were up 10.3% and 10.4% respectively. (MTI-Econews)
