Hungary expects IMF/EU talks to continue in September

Hungary continues to expect parties at negotiations with the International Monetary Fund and the European Union to stick to the earlier decided schedule and continue the negotiations in September, the office of minister without portfolio in charge of the talks Mihály Varga told business daily Világgazdaság on Monday, responding to a query.

The Hungarian delegation is in "constant contact" with the other parties at the talks, the office said. IMF director of external relations Gerry Rice told MTI at a press briefing in Washington on Thursday that the IMF is in contact with the Hungarian authorities and its European partners, but has not yet set a date to continue talks on a program for Hungary.

Hungary is seeking precautionary financial assistance from the IMF and the European Union.
