Hungary's wheat harvest is expected to be between 3.5 million and 4 million tons, state secretary in charge of farm affairs at the Rural Development Ministry György Czerván told MTI, after a meeting of the national harvest coordination committee.
The harvest will be enough to meet domestic demand and some is expected to be exported, Czerván said. Yields have varied greatly, depending on the weather in the given region, he added.
Last year's wheat harvest came to 4.4 million tons, down 22% from 2008, figures from the Central Statistical Office (KSH) shows. (MTI – Econews)
