According to the daily Napi Gazdaság, the Hungarian Parliament will, during the little time it has left before the general elections, ratify a bill underlining Budapest’s ambitions to host the summer Olympics in 2020.
Those involved hope that news of the gesture will reach the top levels of international sports diplomacy, currently convened in Vancouver for the 2010 winter games.
Although legally regulated, ratification of the act would not bind Hungary to actually submit a bid for the 2020 event.
It would, however, entail that the state and Budapest will be directly involved in the preparatory works.
The Budapest Olympics Movement (BOM), an organization of businesses advocating the Olympics being brought to Hungary, said that preparing would cost HUF 500 million annually. (Napi Gazdaság)
