Hungarian and foreign tourists spent 18.078 mln guest nights at commercial lodgings in Hungary in the first eleven months of 2006, 3.8% fewer than in the same period a year earlier, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported on Tuesday.
The number of foreign guest nights fell 8.4% from a year earlier to 9.409 million while domestic guest nights rose 2.5% to 8.669 million in January-November 2006. Guest nights at hotels fell 1.8% year-on-year to 12.601 million in the first eleven months, of which foreign guest nights fell 8.4% to 7.383 million while guest nights spent by Hungarians in hotels rose a sharp 9.4% to 5.218 million. The average occupancy rate of hotels in January-November was 49.0%, unchanged from the same period a year earlier. Gross revenue of commercial lodgings was Ft 213.869 billion (€841.5 million) in January-November, a 5.3% increase at current prices from the same period a year earlier. Room fees accounted for 57.1% of total revenue during the period, catering accounted for 23.6% and other services for the rest. Room fees and prices for catering rose 5.0% year-on-year, including a 6.0% rise in room rates and a 5.0% rise in the price of catering services, KSH said. (Mti-Eco)
