Gross wages up, number of employees down in January

2,749,000 people were employed by enterprises with at least five employees and by budgetary and social institutions, as well as non-profit organizations in January 2006, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported.

This figure is 0.9% lower than a year earlier. In 2005, 0.5% fewer people worked in the enterprise sector and 2.2% fewer people were employed in the budgetary sector.

Average gross nominal wages of full-time employees amounted to Ft 195,500 in January 2006. Average gross and net earnings rose by 6.1% and by 7.6% compared to the same period of the previous year. In budgetary institutions average gross wages increased by 4.7% in January 2006 while they rose by 8.1% in enterprises. Average gross earnings according to SNA concept was 202 Ft 800 and rose by 6.2% in January.
