Govt wants to subsidise purchase of POS terminals for small tourism companies

The government wants to subsidise the purchase by small tourism service providers of point-of-purchase terminals that can process payments with the SZEP Card, the main element of a new recreational voucher system, government commissioner for the issue of the cards Laszlo Kortvelyessy said on Monday.

Mr Kortvelyessy said it was a goal of the national economy to provide an incentive for using POS terminals and card payments.

Payments with cards account for just a quarter of all retail purchases in Hungary, well under the 75-80% proportion in Western Europe.

The number of businesses that accept the SZEP Card reached 5,000 last year.
