Govt to spend HUF 120 billion to develop Budapest's City Park

The government plans to complete the renewal of Budapest's City Park along with a new museum complex by 2018 at a cost of HUF 120 billion, to be covered largely from European Union funding, minister for human resources Zoltán Balog said in Budapest on Sunday.

Balog said that this will be a cultural development project of an "unprecedented scale" in the past one hundred years in the capital. In order to integrate the collections of the Museum of Ethnography, the Hungarian Museum of Photography, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Hungarian National Gallery, the new museum complex will house the New National Gallery, the Ludwig Museum, the House of Hungarian Music and the Hungarian Museum of Photography.
Ministerial commissioner László Baán said the City Park could attract 1-1.5 million tourists a year after the project is complete.
