Gov’t to raise pension by 3.8% from January

Hungary's pensioners will see their pension payments rise by 3.8% from January 1, 2011, government spokeswoman Anna Nagy told a news conference on Thursday.

The National Economy Ministry projects annual average inflation of 3.5% in 2011.

The hike will apply to normal old-age pensions, widower payments, and care for orphans as well as compensation payments for accidents, Nagy said. The measure covers just over 2.6m pensioners, she added.

On top of the 3.8% raise, people who became pensioners before this year will enjoy a supplementary hike of 0.6%, Nagy said. (MTI-Econews)
