Gov't to nominate two new MNB rate-setters today

The government will on Monday nominate only two new candidates to fill the four empty seats of the Central Bank's Monetary Council, reported, citing an email sent to Parliament's Economy Committee yesterday by committee chairman Antal Rogán. Fidesz will nominate Ferenc Gerhardt and Andrea Bártfai-Mager, both of whom held posts at MNB under Zsigmond Járai, the previous governor and Fidesz finance minister between 1998 and 2000. Gerhardt is currently deputy chief executive of Hungarian development bank MFB and worked as a director at the central bank between 2005 and 2007. Bártfai-Mager worked at the financial stability department of MNB before joining the Hungarian Competition Office (GVH) in 2007, where she had worked until 2010.
