The government has allocated HUF 97 billion to support the convergence of Hungary's 33 most disadvantaged communities, Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai said at a conference on Wednesday.
About 1 million people live in the communities, in the Great Plain region, North Hungary and South Transdanubia, Bajnai said. The communities are 15% behind the country's more developed regions, he added.
The programme will only be successful if one-third of the communities advance at least one category in 6-8 years, Bajnai said. (MTI-ECONEWS)
