Forint adrift on interbank market

The forint meandered in directionless trade on Thursday morning's interbank market, softening to the euro, firming to the Swiss franc and stagnating to the US dollar as many traders idled in a wait-and-see mode ahead of potentially market-influencing speeches from US President Barack Obama and European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet.

The forint softened to 275.81 to the euro at 9:45 a.m. from a rate of 275.62 at 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday, firming to 227.62 to the Swiss franc from a rate of 228.08 and standing essentially changed at 196.38 to the US dollar at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday compared to 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday.

Dealers predict that the forint will fluctuate between 274 and 277 to the euro on Thursday.
