European Commission requests Hungary comply with television directive

The European Commission said it requested Hungary, as well as eleven other member states, to urgently update their national broadcasting rules in order to comply with obligations under the Audiovisual Media Service (AVMS) Directive.

Hungary should have implemented the AVMS Directive -- which updates rules on broadcasting in light of changes in technology to ensure better legal protection for European television viewers -- by the end of 2009.

The Commission made the same request, in the form of a reasoned opinion, of Austria, Cyprus, Estonia, Greece, Finland, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, and Slovenia. (MTI – Econews)
