Economic sentiment deteriorates in Q1 - Kopint-Tárki

Economic research institute Kopint-Tárki's combined quarterly index of sentiment among households and manufacturing companies in Hungary slipped to 40.8 in the first quarter of 2011 from 43 in the fourth quarter of last year, Kopint-Tárki told MTI on Monday evening.

The quarterly index, which rose in Q4 of 2010 from 42.5 in Q3 of last year, gauges economic sentiment on a scale of 0 to 100, with higher numbers indicating better sentiment.

Kopint-Tárki's sub-index of sentiment among manufacturing companies in Hungary reached a two-and-a-half-year high in the first quarter of 2011, rising to 52 in Q1 – slightly above its long-term average – from 44 in Q4 2010.

The economic research institute's sub-index of sentiment among households in Hungary dropped to 38 in the first quarter of 2011 from 39 in the fourth quarter of 2010.
