A country-wide strike called by the LIGA association of unions on Friday caused few disruptions: although people traveling by train faced delays, railway workers suspended their strike at noon.
State-owned railway company MÁV told MTI that trains started in most places in the morning, though with delays. Buses replaced some trains. The strike had a minimal effect at hospitals and schools. School-leaving exams for the country's secondary school students went ahead as planned. Postal workers did not join the strike, nor did the staff of the Budapest public transportation company BKV. LIGA called the strike to protest new austerity measures proposed by the Bajnai government. (MTI - Econews)
