Consumer prices up 2.5% yr/yr in February

Hungarian consumer price inflation was up 2.5% in February, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) said on Tuesday.

Inflation in February rose 0.2% from January. Consumer prices in the first two months were up 2.6% from a year earlier.

In January, consumer prices rose 2.7% year-on-year and were up 0.1% from December. Excluding the affect of tax changes, February consumer prices rose 0.7% from January and were up by 4.4% year-on-year, KSH reported.

Seasonally-adjusted twelve-month core inflation rose slightly to 0.6% in February from 0.5% in January and monthly core inflation showed no change after a fall of 0.7% in the previous month. In December, core inflation was 1.2% year-on-year and 0.1% month-on-month.

The harmonized consumer price index (HICP) slowed further, to 2.3% in a twelve-month comparison but was up 0.4% month-on-month after no monthly change January.

Average annual inflation was 3.6% in 2005 after 6.8% in 2004.
