The competition office (GVH) on Wednesday imposed fines of a total of HUF 7.2 billion (€25.47 million) on four railway construction companies for cartel activity, GVH told MTI.
In connection with public procurement tenders called for reconstruction of Hungarian railway sections, the companies came to preliminary agreements on dividing the market between themselves, in some cases also determining the winning applicant, GVH said.
Colas Zrt was fined HUF 1.5 billion, MAVEPCELL (Swietelsky group) HUF 2.1 billion, MAV MTM HUF 178 million and Szentesi Vasútépítő (STRABAG group) HUF 3.4 billion.
In line with GVH's leniency policy, the fifth company, Vasútépítők Pályatervező, Kivitelező es Iparvágányfenntartó Kft, was exempted from the fine after providing evidence that was essential to disclosing the infringement. (MTI-Econews)
