The Budapest mayor’s cabinet is to call for prolonging the implementation schedule of a €491-million sewage treatment plant to be realized on the Csepel island, a project receiving substantial EU support.
The project was originally scheduled for completion at the end of 2010. The EU’s decision on whether it will approve the delay will affect €132 million in funding, Budapest politicians told state newswire MTI.
The Budapest assembly is expected on Thursday to approach Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai to mediate with the EU to okay the rescheduling and to leave the funding with Hungary. (Gazdasági Rádió)
