APEH gears up to deter tax evasion

The State Tax Office (Apeh) is planning to use increased publicity and stricter penalties to fight widespread tax evasion among businesses, national daily Magyar Hírlap reported. In a proposal pending Parliamentary approval, Apeh has put forward a plan to publish company information online on enterprises using the simplified business tax system (EVA), without specifying how this would serve as a deterrent against tax fraud. Moreover, the tax office would withdraw the tax number of companies with a fictitious address or no registered company representative with immediate effect until further investigation. (MH 11)
