Planning for EU-supported railway projects has begun

Preparations for the renovation of railways and railway stations on the outskirts of Budapest and modernization of Hungary's pan-European railway corridor number 4 between Hegyeshalom and Lökősháza have begun, Hungary's National Infrastructural Development Zrt (NIF) reported on Monday.

The NIF said that the preparations, including planning and acquiring the necessary permits, would be completed in 2012.

The preparations for the renovation of railways and railway stations near Budapest has received HUF 4.8 billion in European Union support through the Transportation Operative Program, while the majority of the HUF 2.8 billion in financing for the preparations for the modernization of the Hungarian section of the number 4 pan-European railway corridor stems from EU Cohesion funds.
