Nearly 60,000 private pension account holders, or roughly 2% of the total, have so far declared before the Jan. 31 deadline that they will keep their private accounts, Economy Minister György Matolcsy said yesterday. Matolcsy said the “decisive majority” of the 3.3 million Hungarians who are private pension fund members are opting to return their portfolios to the state budget. According to eyewitness reports, thousands were still standing in lines Thursday afternoon to file their written declarations with the nearest pension offices countrywide.
