Digital terrestrial broadcast coverage in Hungary will reach 95% by the end of the year, up from 88pc at the end of 2009, Jean Francois Fenech, CEO of Antenna Hungária, which is in charge of the rollout, said at a press conference on Wednesday.
Digital broadcasts will start in fourteen more cities by year-end, Fenech said. Already 125,000 households watch Antenna Hungária's AH Mindig TV digital broadcast service and the number is set to rise to 200,000 in Q1 2011, he added.
About 800,000 households in Hungary, or some 2 million people, watch analogue terrestrial television broadcasts.
AH Mindig TV includes seven free channels and 11 pay channels. Antenna Hungária said it would not yet reveal the number of households with subscriptions to the pay channels.
Antenna Hungária is spending HUF 25 billion on the rollout or an annual HUF 4-5 billion by the end of 2011, Fenech said. (MTI-ECONEWS)
