Hungarian producers urge probe into cinema acquisition

Hungary's national association of producers (MPSz) lodged an appeal with the country's competition office GVH to investigate whether a recent acquisition of four multiplex cinemas by Cinema City International is against EU competition laws. Cinema City International bought the four Hungarian theaters as part of a €28 million deal that included the purchase of Palace Cinemas' in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The deal gives the cinema company a 90% share of Hungary's multiplex market, association chairman Gábor Kálomista said. Cinema City International is the largest multiplex operator in Central and Eastern Europe as well as Israel. (MTI-Econews)
