Dudarit, a semi-organic compound mined by Hungarian pesticide maker Organit Kft has already been used in agriculture for soil amelioration. Experiments with this humic, coal-like material mined in Dudar, 120 kilometers from Budapest, have been so far successful: the soil acidity of the treated plot dropped from pH 13 to pH 7 in 30 minutes. Humic acid can absorb and convert heavy metals into compounds that living organisms cannot absorb. Experts say approximately 5 tons/hectare of Dudarit would be sufficient to restore the ecosystem, but further calculations are needed to calculate the exact amount.
