Government does not plan to close 1,200km of railway line

The government does not plan to close 1,200 km of railway line, National Development Ministry state secretary Pál Völner told the daily newspaper Magyar Nemzet, refuting a press report earlier in the week.

The business daily Napi Gazdaság said that the New Széchenyi Plan accounts for only 6,000 km of Hungary's 7,200 km railway network, thus suggesting that the government intends to close 1,200 km of track.

Völner told Magyar Nemzet that the figures included in the plan indicated only that the government has enough resources for the maintenance and renovation of 6,000 km of the railway network, which does not entail the closure of the remaining 1,200 km of track. (MTI – Econews)
