Crops on about 200,000 hectares of farm land planted in the autumn have been lost because of standing water, Rural Development Ministry state secretary György Czerván said at a conference organised by the Bácskai and Dunamelléki Agriculture Association in Harkány (SW Hungary) on Friday.
About 307,000 of the 4.5 million hectares of farm land in Hungary are under standing water, Czerván said. A further 740,000 hectares are soaked, he added.
Banks are expected to start lending about HUF 6 billion in preferential working capital loans to farmers hit by the standing water under an earlier government decision, he said. (MTI Econews)
