Zsolnay buyer planning expand product palette

Bachar Najari, Syrian-born businessman with ties to Hungary and Switzerland, plans to expand the product palette of Zsolnay Porcelánmanufaktúra, a porcelain maker with a long and rich tradition that he recently acquired from the local council of Pécs.

Najari said at a press conference in Pécs on Friday that he also plans to open more Zsolnay brand shops in Hungary as well as make changes to the companyʼs management. Three Zsolnay brand stores are expected to open in the capital as well as at two more venues in Pecs, he said.

Najari, who sells luxury watches in Hungary, acquired the 74.5% stake in Zsolnay in February, in a tender called by the local council. He paid HUF 180 million for the shares and promised to invest a further HUF 500 million in the company to restore it to its former glory.
