Taxi company Zóna-Service Zrt will close its shutters due to the oversupply on the market, owner István Veres announced. The confusion over Zóna’s contract, which finally led to the company losing its exclusive rights to offer a fixed-price taxi service at Budapest’s Ferihegy Airport, also contributed to this, Veres said. Budapest Airport Zrt cancelled its contract with Zóna last December, but the company appealed against the decision. Zóna has been waiting for support from the Budapest Municipality in the question of the contract cancellation in vain, Veres added. Including subcontractors, the end of Zóna’s operation affects 300 taxi drivers, online news portal Index said. Police carried out a search on Veres’ property two weeks ago. The officials suspected that Zóna presented fake data to Budapest Airport in order to pay taxes after lower results, Index added.
