Austrian building-materials maker Wienerberger will definitely not reopen its closed brick factory in Békéscsaba this year and will likely not resume production at the plant next year either, the regional daily Békés Megyei Hírlap reported on Friday, quoting officials from the company's Hungarian unit.
Wienerberger Magyarország economic director Norbert Bence told the newspaper that company management expects to resume production at the plant in two years, though that nothing is certain in this regard.
Wienerberger announced in September 2009 that it would close three of its brick factories in Hungary and suspend production at another three plants, including that in Békéscsaba, as a result of a sharp fall in demand on both domestic and foreign markets.
The company said that it would resume production at the three dormant plants in Hungary when demand for bricks rebounded. (MTI-ECONEWS)
