Hungarians bought or sold 104,396 used cars in the first quarter of 2011, up 6% from the same period one year earlier, Weltauto, the used car division of Porsche Hungaria, said.
In 2010, used car sales in the same period were still down 7-11% yr/yr after dropping almost 20% in 2009.
Opel Astra remains the most popular model with 8,573 sales, with Suzuki Swift taking second place with 7,160 sales.
Weltauto brand manager Zoltan Horvath said the increasing demand could have a negative effect soon as the number of available quality cars is falling in the country, which can push prices higher on the one hand, and can turn buyers' attention to import cars. In the first quarter, 5,299 used cars were imported, up almost 40% from the same period of last year, he pointed out.
Sales at used car dealerships accounted for 31.6% of all sales, up slightly from last year.
