Pan-European communications company UPC on Monday said it is merging its satellite television units in Central Europe to improve efficiency.
The units will be merged into Luxembourg-based UPC DTH.
The move follows the conclusion of a long-term satellite and capacity lease agreement between UPC and Telenor to broadcast UPC Direct service from the Thor 5 and 6 satellites as well as an agreement with SES Astra on a high-standard uplink service from that company's Luxemburg headquarters.
The statement said consolidation of the satellite television activities of the Hungarian, Czech, Slovak and Romanian activities of UPC would have little effect on subscribers. (MTI-Econews)
