UN moves regional Food Aid Office, service center to Budapest

The United Nation's organization in charge of food aid programs is moving its European office to Hungary, Hungarian Agriculture Minister József Gráf said. The Food and Agriculture Organization will relocate its office from Rome to Budapest in January, Gráf said yesterday. It will also open a center in the Hungarian capital from September 2007 to manage human resources and banking services for the UN in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, the minister added. Hungary will contribute a one-time amount of about Ft 200 million ($927,797) to the cost of opening the offices and will spend as much as Ft 150 million on the bureaus annually, Graf added. Some 98 people will be employed at the two offices. (Bloomberg)
