Tenders for Paks expansion to be called in early 2012

Tenders for the planned expansion of Hungary’s sole nuclear power plant in Paks are expected to be called at the beginning of 2012 and assessed in the first half of 2013, National Development Minister Tamás Fellegi said. Permits for the expansion should be obtained by the end of 2013, Fellegi said. The concept for the expansion, approved last year by state-owned utility company MVM Zrt, the power plant’s owner, puts the project's completion between 2020 and 2025. Preparations for the expansion are expected to take 5-6 years and construction at least another 5 years. The Paks plant supplies about 40% of Hungary's electricity. (MTI-Econews)
