City officials of Tamási (SW Hungary) on Friday laid the cornerstone for a HUF 3.7 billion development that includes a covered thermal bath and a four-star hotel.
The covered bath, next to the city's existing bath, will cost net HUF 1.42 billion to build. EU funding will cover HUF 701 million of the cost. It is expected to be completed by November 2010. A tender to build the bath and to operate it for 25 years was won by the company Aquaplus.
The 81-room hotel will cost HUF 2.3 billion to build, of which HUF 600 million will come from EU funding, said Zsolt Volencsik of project company Blue Aqua.
The investment is expected to raise the number of visitors to the city's baths from 100,000 to 200,000-250,000, said mayor József Ribányi. (MTI-ECONEWS)
