Production volume at Magyar Suzuki Rt's plant in Esztergom, north Hungary increased 54% in the first quarter compared to the same period last year, business daily Világgazdaság reported on Wednesday.
The new Suzuki SX4 sports utility vehicle, which the unit started making in March, has seen big demand: 6,700 of the vehicles rolled off the assembly line in March alone, but the plant could still not fill all orders. The company aims to produce an annual 300,000 vehicles, including Swift and Wagon R+ models as well as SX4 models, by 2008. In 2006, the plant will turn out 170,000 vehicles.
Suzuki plans to spend Ft 46 billion on investments at it Hungarian unit in 2006, compared to Ft 60 billion in 2005. The company employs 3,000 people at its base in Esztergom.
