Today Spar launches a new supermarket with a unit in Budapest’s District 12 reopening as the chain’s first City store after a Ft 300 million upgrade.
Today marks the launch of a new supermarket brand by grocery store operator Spar Hungary Kft, with a unit in Budapest’s Dist. 12 reopening as the chain’s first City store after a Ft 300 million upgrade. Compared with other Spar retail outlets, City supermarkets will feature a larger selection of fresh foods and other ready-to-eat products such as pizza, salads or baked goods. A similar store is scheduled to open in Budapest before the end of the year, with several more to follow in 2007.
The store openings in Hungary will serve as a pilot project for Austrian-owned Spar Group, to be followed by subsidiaries in the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Croatia and Italy if the concept is successful. As part of large-scale network expansion in Hungary, Spar has recently opened five new Interspar hypermarkets in some of Hungary’s major cities, with 14 supermarkets ready to open before New Year as well.
