Supermarket chain Spar's revenue in Hungary rose 6.2% to HUF 397.3 billion in 2009, Spar Magyarország managing director Péter Feiner said at a press conference in Budapest on Friday.
Spar Magyarország aims to boost its turnover further in 2010, and it wants to raise its market share from over 14% to around 15%, Feiner said. There are plans to open 3-5 supermarkets and one hypermarket in 2010, bringing the total number of units just over 400, he added.
Spar Magyarország will spend several hundred million of forints to renovate more of the Plus stores it acquired in 2008, Feiner said.
Spar Magyarország told MTI in January it planned to renovate 70 of the 174 Plus units. Last year, Spar renovated 15 of the units.
Spar's house brands account for about 21% of its sales. Between 78% and 80% of its products are from Hungarian suppliers. (MTI-Econews)
