Schmitz builds Hungarian plant

Schmitz Cargobull AG, a German manufacturer of truck trailers, chose Hungary to build its 10th factory next year, business daily Világgazdaság reported.

The company bought 30,000 square meters (323,000 square feet) of property to build the new facility in Bicske, central Hungary, the newspaper said, citing Joerg Moehling, the local unit's chief executive. The Hungarian plant, which will start production in 2008, will initially employ 80 workers and build 2,500 trailers a year from German parts, the newspaper said. The facility will eventually employ 120 people and build 5,000 trailers, Világgazdaság said. In addition to Hungary, Schmitz Cargobull has plants in Germany, the U.K., Spain and Lithuania, the paper said.
